-Zain Kadri
Our parents/guardians work hard to keep you happy. They nurture and safeguard you during your times of need.
They want the best for us, but sometimes, they don’t realize that what they think is good for us, could potentially play a negative role and be detrimental to your mental health.
Now more than ever, “Gen Z” struggles to establish healthy relationships between both parent and child. We often blame social media and technology... But is that really the case? Lets look at the root of the problem. Who is to blame for all of this?
Mark Zuckerburg for creating Facebook? Steve Jobs for creating iPhones?
No. Both individuals were looking to advance the world in some way, the same way Thomas Edison created the light bulb or the Wright brothers invented the airplane.
Technology is made for the advancement of human life here on Earth. To make life not only easier, but a way to gain from it.
Without all these great innovators and inventors (Nikola Tesla, Leonardo Da Vinci, etc.), we would lack fundamental technology! In essence, you can say we would be significantly behind as a society.
A specific formula was used by these great inventors, to make these great inventions and innovations possible. TECHNOLOGY. They used technology which was available to them at the time, to further advance more TECHNOLOGY!
So predominantly, your iPhone, your social media should be treated nothing more than a tool; Because TECHNOLOGY IS A TOOL.
Tools can be dangerous if the user is not trained properly! Social media on our phones can be seen as saw blades: Saw blades are razor sharp, and cut through with precision and accuracy. But if you use a saw blade incorrectly, you can cut yourself.
Technology is just a tool to mankind!
Its made people millions overnight! It made BITCOIN, it made stock trading easier, Its made Jeff Bezos the RICHEST MAN ALIVE! Yet, the previous generations are still to stubborn to accept this new reality. Those individuals who took advantage of technology, became rich.
The truth is, technology is a whole new world, and our children are beginning to take baby steps in it. As parents, if we don’t familiarize ourselves with social media and technology, you are allowing your kids to walk alone in a new world!
New modern technology can be compared to the use of cigarettes. In the 1950’s, smoking was considered cool and almost all teenagers were consumed by this propaganda.
Only a few years later, did they discover that cigarettes were extremely harmful, but by then it was too late.
Analyze this chart for yourself and tell me if I’m lying.
In the same way, we don’t know what the physical, mental or social effects of modern day technology will have on us in the next few decades to come. Already however, studies have shown that social media impacts someone’s mental health in countless ways.
So of course they will become addicted to their cell phones! They are exploring! But they may not realize the dangers which follow in a new world of technology.
Despite all the negative effects, it has also improved countless lives. We need to keep in mind that technology is nothing but a TOOL.
Again and again, I reuse this word “technology” to help you understand that it is actually more of a GOOD thing than bad. We are just not taught enough as young adults to use it correctly due to the lack of education our older generations have on the subject.
As parents, your responsibility is to teach your children how to use technology for good! Don’t buy your child an iPhone for his enjoyment! Explicitly let them know that it is nothing but a TOOL!
AND IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO USE IT… LEARN IT!
We have no one to blame, except ourselves.
The older generation was once familiar with earth and its changes, but now more than ever, the elderly struggle to adapt to the constant variations of technology and the rapid-paced environment we all live in today.
They make silly mistakes, and question our generation; On top of that, our parents are hesitant when it comes to changing their own perspectives on the new generation they themselves have produced.
In short, our older generations are stubborn to accept and learn modern day technology and gen Z is suffering due to this stubbornness.
To unveil the older generations secret of stubbornness, let’s take a look at:
OUR PREVIOUS GENERATIONS
Think about it like this;
During our whole life, we work towards discovering who we are. We refuse to let go of the lessons we learn after going through our own unique experiences.
Our parents discovered or thought they had discovered who they are throughout the entirety of their life. They believe in their OWN capabilities and are skillful in a certain field that they worked towards their whole life.
To the young adults - If you were to ask yourself who you are, you will not be able to give me a solid answer. Who you are today, could change tomorrow. That’s because you’re still young.
(That’s if you’re still young)
On the other hand, our elders have been through varied and unique experiences throughout the entirety of their lives. They’ve already drawn a conclusion to who they are, and can 100% tell us what they were put on earth to do. Shouldn’t we listen to them?
Yes, well not exactly…
Now with all that experience, when a simple robot replaces their purpose or job, or a worthless kid becomes a millionaire overnight, they become furious. They realize everything that they worked towards is meaningless.
They become resistant to the fact that their so called “calling to earth” was but merely a pebble’s worth of contribution. They are angry and distraught at the fact that times are changing. Life is not what it used to be, and it will never be the same again…
However, they do not realize on the bright side, that the technology which replaced them, actually significantly reduces the time it takes to complete their job or fulfill their purpose.
As I’ve stated multiple times in my previous articles, TIME IS THE NUMBER ONE CURRENCY. We are nothing but people contributing to a single cause (technological discoveries and self discovery) using the limited time we have here on earth; Our time shouldn’t be traded for a few dollars (minimum wage) to simply work for the artificial capitalistic system humans created from becoming depressed or going insane.
I bring that up because; Time is extremely important, which is why humans prefer to save it. By using technology to complete a task, you are saving significant amounts of time compared to hiring an individual who cant guarantee to complete a given task.
It’s ironic that the saying, “Time is money” was used most by our previous generations. The same people who don’t allow themselves to familiarize themselves with technology don’t realize that it is heavily reducing the number of errors and time it takes to complete a tasks.
Time is the most valuable thing to anyone. Why waste an extra 30 minutes of your time diagnosing a problem, when technology can do it in 5.
A SKILL TO LEARN WHEN YOU BECOME THE “OLDER GENERATION”
A skill that would most benefit every individual, is adaptability. Especially during a time where people’s jobs, housing, and livelihood depend on technology, we should all strive to become adaptable to any environment we are placed in.
The older generations are hesitant on trusting technology and are too stubborn to adapt.
It’s hard for older generations to accept new concepts like LGBTQ+ and new beliefs. However, It’s not their fault because older generations were taught that such concepts are unnatural and uncanny.
The truth is, whether you support or don’t support the cause, it will be a concept that will continue for generations onwards.
Moving forward, generation Z struggles to communicate and build healthy relationships with their parents and the rest of their elderly family. There is a lot of miscommunication and disagreement, which will get worse if we don’t learn to ADAPT.
As we continue to progress as a global community, more new concepts are bound to rise up. Due to the constant population growth, more and more new ideas are being implemented into our daily lives. THATS BECAUSE: More Leaders, More inventors and more innovators are being born every year!
That means Technology is growing at an exponential rate.
Only around 20 years ago, the following items were invented: The GPS; a guide to destinations all around the globe. Electric cars; The future cars of Canada to reduce Co2 emissions. The Digital Camera; A camera used by all to capture the moment at any given moment.
Let me repeat myself. 20 YEARS AGO. That is literally nothing compared to the years humans have been walking on Earth. We’ve come a long way from where we began, and undoubtedly, we still continue to progress at such a high speed, that we cant keep up anymore.
This is the graph which represents where we currently stand in the coming history of mankind. The yellow highlight illustrates the time we are in currently in comparison to technology. We are just on the verge of a major breakthrough in the field of technology; To the point where it will sky rocket, and explode through the roof.
That is why, it is so hard for older generations to understand our newer ones. We are learning to adapt to a new world, with new ways to learn, become rich and socialize with people. Our older generations can no longer give an accurate perception of how life will be in the upcoming years. Therefor, not all their advice can be deemed useful.
Especially if they haven’t familiarized themselves with technology already.
HOW TO MOVE FORWARD AS PARENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS, USING THIS KNOWLEDGE:
Congratulations! You had the opportunity to experience a “Modern Philosophical Concept” made by yours truly. You received knowledge which will further benefit your very own life and relationship with others. But wait… How do you apply this knowledge?
I live by this philosophy: “Having good judgment is one thing, acting on good judgment is another”. What will you do to use this knowledge to benefit your own life?
You can have infinite knowledge including all the worlds secrets; If you don’t use it, what’s the point of having it? I ask this same question to university students all the time, “What are you going to do with the education and degree you will soon receive?”
Ask yourself the same question. What will you do?
Most of them don’t have an answer, they were forced to go into school because their parents think it will get them a secure job. Honestly, if you don’t know what you’re doing in university; I recommend 2 things. 1. Decide right now, what exactly you will do with your degree. Or 2. Drop out and pursue your childhood dream.
University will just end up being a waste of money and time without having a direct plan of what you wish to do. That’s what high school is for; you are meant to spend the 4 years figuring out what subjects interest you, and what don’t. Based off of your preferences, you search for a profession or field which fit those categories.
PLEASE, do not waste your precious time going into a field such as MEDICINE, to end up taking any job offer such as a banker which makes half of what you could’ve made, if you just had a plan. (True story)
This disgusting repetitive behavior is common among the youth, simply because they are misguided and forced to go into a certain field.
As if I still haven’t convinced you enough, you waste 3 precious things:
TIME, POTENTIAL and MONEY!
If you have a SOLID PLAN, go for it and don’t look back. Being indecisive is worse than having a crippling disease!
For the parents and guardians, I ask that you do significant research into your children’s schooling and education system, and come up with a solid plan.
One problem with the school system:
After this technological advancement, we are yet to innovate our school system. It has been the same since they’ve started! How can we continue to learn the same lessons as the people in the 1900’s in this new era?
THE SYSTEM STAYS UNTOUCHED!
They don’t teach us fundamental skills! We are required, as human beings to go out of the way to teach ourselves what school doesn’t!
That includes learning the following:
Negotiating
Taxes and Credit
Time management
Self Assessment and Self Improvement
Making definite decisions
And many more.
These skills should be taught by oneself. Use technology as a tool to perfect these skills; Because after all, technology can also be used as a form of learning.
A quick Google search can change your entire life, one YouTube video can make you millions, but only YOU, have the ability to choose what you want to surround yourself with on the internet.
STOP USING SOCIAL MEDIA AS A LIFESTYLE!
Social media is not a lifestyle, again, like I’ve said many many times… It should be used as a tool. Here’s some ways how:
Become an influencer (Make money off promo!)
Networking and building connections (Linkedin)
Advertising
Everyday, social media is being used in new creative ways. In my eyes, you can be seen as one of two things.
The SCREW; Who uses social media on a daily basis to keep up with friends and family, OR The SCREW DRIVER: Who uses the users attention to build his own business.
Don’t get me wrong, you can value being a screw, but it wont drive you any closer to your dreams. The Screw Driver, DRIVES himself to accomplish his dreams using the tools given to him!
To the parents and guardians who are currently going through a tough time with their children, I beg you to broaden your scope of view on this newer generation. I also ask you to take responsibility and understand technology so you may be able to guide your child in the right direction.
Just remember:
Based off the actions you make of today, your life, and the future of your child’s life, are currently being determined.
The youth are misguided.
Speaking as a previously misguided youth, I aim to guide younger individuals on to the path of success in the near future.
Your first investment should be into yourself! You can sign up for my 3-day follow up course for $24.99, where you will get personal 1-on-1 help! Believe it or not, Your life could be changed forever over the span of 3 days! The choice is yours.

This was incredibly well written, Zain. Broadened my perspectives on how technology should be used as a tool rather than viewing it as a lifestyle. I can't wait to hear more!
Amazing bro! Crazy perspectives. Loved what you said about the Screws and the Screw drivers Haha
