How to maximize your potential using “The Process”
(A little back story first)
My life use to be like many others; just a paper in the wind. I had big goals, but rarely worked on achieving them. The thing was, I knew I had the power to accomplish big things, but didn’t know the first place I could begin. At first, I thought I lacked the motivation, inspiration and energy to attain such goals, but I came to know that wasn’t the case…
So what was it? Before I can answer this question, I would like to turn your focus to the word Destiny. I’m sure you’ve heard this word many times in your life and probably don’t think much about it.
Let me reassure you, that Destiny is real and not a hoax.
To me Destiny means to find yourself, and to discover the fate that is already pre determined, and planned before you were born.
Before you go on and “find yourself” (Will go over another time), you must first be put on the right path. Hopefully these future blogs will provide you with the right information to avoid yourself from being led astray.
Anyways,
We all find ourselves in different ways, maybe this blog is your destiny and will change your life! However there is no formula to get someone onto the right path… We all fail, and learn from our mistakes.
One major thing I have taught myself is that FAILURE is OKAY! Many people I know want everything, but are afraid to fail. I tell them; Without failing, Success is not possible.
Quote of the week:
“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” - Robert F. Kennedy
And only after failing consistently again and again, I finally came to the conclusion that these are some of the numerous steps that will get you where you want to be in life. I call it; The Process.
Set a routine: Every morning, I aim to wake up at 6:30am, and aim to sleep around 11pm. Seems difficult? Well, not really.
My body has got used to the “sleep schedule” to the point where I don’t even need to keep an alarm anymore. When creating a routine, be sure to stick to it, and push through the first few days of waking up early, your body will automatically adjust.
A routine can significantly change your lifestyle, and increase productivity by a lot (Trust me). I became more energetic and less distracted. By 11am, all my work that I needed or wanted done would be complete, giving me the rest of the day to do other productive activities: drawing, writing a blog, playing the clarinet etc.
To me a routine is one of the first and most crucial steps of starting your day and becoming a more pro active person.
Commitment: Without the correct mindset, nothing is possible. Commitment and will power with a positive mindset is undoubtedly the formula to success. The power lies within you! Reread that, and really take it in.
When committing to something, anything at all, be sure you ACTUALLY mean it, and approach it with great care. Devise a plan to achieve this target you are setting up for yourself, and take it one step at a time. No matter how slow the progress, it contributes to the process.
One common mistake people make when committing to something, is telling others about your future goals and commitments. Whether that is finishing your school work, or completing band practice… By telling others about what you want to do in the future, it tricks your subconscious into believing you have already accomplished it.
This will be hard for many of us, as it is common nature for humans to socialize and talk about these certain topics. But when I mean no one, I mean no one. Not your family, not your best friend and not even your pet!
Here is a short video by “Better than Yesterday” explaining a bit more in depth to what I mean.
Journal and track: Everyday, I make sure to reflect and improve my day from yesterday, and come up with 3 different ways I do not make the same mistakes I made. I also jot down 3 things I did well today and how to improve my good habits.
An example from my journal when I first begun:
Did not learn something new; I will not eat Lunch tomorrow without learning something new (anything).
Exceeded more than 2 hours on my phone; I will not use my phone for 1 hour after eating, waking up and 1 hour prior to sleeping. Will avoid talking to people unnecessarily and without purpose. (easier said than done!)
Did not complete school assignment; I will prioritize this over everything because it is due the next day!
Good things today:
Woke up at 6:30am; need to LITERALLY get out of bed a bit quicker.
Learnt how to play a new song on the clarinet; I will learn to play a new song tomorrow (slightly harder).
Worked out for 20 minutes; I will increase reps by 5 the next day.
Discipline, Practice & Consistency (DPC): This is the final step of the process. When developing habits, temptation, distractions and laziness will be a burden to you for the first few days, maybe even weeks.
If you practice enough, you will not need motivation, or inspiration to do certain tasks anymore. If you can resist these troubles and continue to follow The Process, you are for sure- no, GUARANTEED going to become more productive everyday.
The change will be a bit difficult, but it’s worth it.
I hope that this post was helpful to you. After continuous practice, I can say this will change your life too. I was once in that state of mind with no motivation, energy or inspiration. I am now confident in my ability to achieve my goals after following The Process.
